Grandma

Grandma, next to my Grandpa Grange and Grandpa Cowley

Rielly, Breanne and Ty

My Uncle Pete, saying goodbye

What a pretty lady

This is a letter that my Grandma sent to my Grandpa when he was in World War 2. If you look above his name, you can see that it says "Deceased". The military sent a stack of letters back to my Grandma, and all of the letters said "deceased". This is how my Grandma found out that her husband had been killed in the war.

This says "This returned letter marked "deceased" was how Marie (Grandma) learned of Petes death. No telegram was sent to her! Her sister in law who worked in the post office got the bundle of returned letters and rushed them to Marie. Such a terrible way to learn of Petes death."

That is a terrible way to find out. How heartbreaking! My grandma (who really was my step-grandma), lost her first husband in the war too, and had written to tell him that they were going to have a baby and that letter was returned to her too, so he never knew.

Sorry your Grandma is gone. I lost my last living Grandpa last Oct, so I know what you're feeling.
